Teams from Egypt and the ICRC have been authorized to search for the remains of deceased hostages taken during the October 7th incidents, officials in Israel have verified.

The authorities in Israel announced that the teams have been permitted to operate beyond the referred to as "demarcation line" in the region under the control of military personnel in Gaza.

The group has handed over fifteen out of twenty-eight hostages who lost their lives under the first phase of a American-mediated truce agreement, which mandates it to hand over all remains of captives. The organization stated it is now working together with Egyptian authorities.

The former US president has cautions the organization to begin returning the remains "quickly, or the additional nations involved in this significant peace will intervene".

An official representative indicated the crew from Egypt has been authorized to work with the ICRC to locate the remains, and would use excavator machines and trucks for the operation beyond the "yellow line".

The "yellow line" indicates the border running along the northern, southern and eastern of Gaza that Israel withdrew to, as part of the initial phase of the ceasefire deal.

Previously, Israeli authorities has not authorized the entry of such teams.

Egypt, along with Qatar and Turkish authorities, is a principal participant of the mediated by Trump Gaza peace plan, which was signed in the Egyptian resort of the resort town in recent weeks.

The news will be welcomed by relatives, eager to provide a proper burial.

Captive circumstances in the region

The ICRC has already been deeply engaged in the repatriation of captives.

Hamas does not transfer its captives - alive or deceased - directly to the Israel Defense Forces, but instead to the Red Cross, which in turn accompanies them through the territory and transfers them to the IDF.

But the entry of Egyptian excavation teams inside the Gaza territory is new.

After more than two years of heavy shelling by Israeli forces, the United Nations estimates that as much as 84% of the territory has been destroyed completely.

Hamas says it is doing its best to recover hostage bodies, but it faces difficulty finding them under debris of buildings destroyed by the Israeli military in Gaza.

It is now coordinating with the officials in Egypt.

On Sunday, an Israeli government spokesperson stated that the organization was aware of where the bodies were.

"If the group put in greater work, they would be able to recover the bodies of our captives," the representative commented.

Trump shared on his Truth Social platform on Saturday that measures would be taken if the remains of the deceased hostages were not returned promptly.

"Some of the bodies are hard to reach, but others they can return now and, for unknown reasons, they are not. Perhaps it has to do with their demilitarization," he said.

Trump added: "Let's see what they accomplish over the next 48 hours. I am monitoring the situation with great attention."

On Sunday, the Israeli leader said the country would determine which international troops it would allow as part of a planned international force in the region to help secure the truce under the former president's initiative.

"We are in control of our safety, and we have also stated explicitly regarding foreign troops that Israel will determine which forces are not acceptable to us, and this is how we function and will proceed," he said speaking at the beginning of a government session.

On Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said "numerous nations" had offered to be part of the contingent - but added Israeli authorities would have to be satisfied with those taking part.

This appeared to be a allusion to the Turkish government, amid accounts Israeli officials had vetoed the nation's participation.

It remained unclear, however, how this contingent could be deployed without an understanding with the organization.

The Israeli military launched a armed operation in the territory in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which militants associated with the group took the lives of about twelve hundred people and took 251 additional persons as captives.

No fewer than sixty-eight thousand five hundred nineteen have been killed in Israeli attacks in the region from that time, according to the area's health authorities under the group's control.
